Get the Most Out of Your Chiropractic Adjustment

grandpa-with-grandchild

Most patients seek chiropractic adjustment to solve a problem – typically to ease pain or increase range of motion. You know the kind – a sore back after a weekend with the grandkids, a stiff neck that prevents you from turning your head properly, or a shoulder that is “bothersome” after a round of golf. We’ve all been there at one time or another.

When patients make an appointment for a chiropractic adjustment, often relief comes to the affected area instantaneously. By the time the adjustment is over, they are feeling better. They leave feeling satisfied and happy with the “easy” fix.

They are understandably disappointed when, if only a week or so after an adjustment, the pain starts to creep back in.

We are repeatedly asked by our patients why the pain comes back and what they can do to maintain the benefits of a chiropractic adjustment.

At Turning Point Wellness Center offices in Red Bud and Waterloo, IL, we’re here not only to provide acute care but to help you maintain better health naturally. We believe giving our patients a better understanding of how chiropractic adjustments work will not only prolong the benefits of treatment, but also give patients more control over their health.

What Happens During Chiropractic Adjustment?

During an adjustment, your chiropractor manipulates your spinal joints to “realign” the spine. For many of us, our spines become misaligned for a variety of reasons from exercise and activity to  growth. This misalignment leads to pain.

Physical manipulation of the spine is the most common form of chiropractic adjustment, although there are tools available that provide a gentler experience. Your local chiropractors at Turning Point Wellness Center will walk you through every step of the treatment.

How to Hold Adjustment

Unfortunately, adjustments do not hold forever. As we move and go about our day, muscles tighten and bones slowly slip out of alignment.
However, there are some things you can do to help get the most of your chiropractic adjustment.

Relax

Stress causes muscles to tense and wreaks havoc on your body. Develop a routine to keep stress away. Try meditation, yoga, or a calming app.

Be physically active

Moving your body is the best way to keep it functioning at its best! Stretching is especially important after a chiropractic adjustment. Find tips for proper stretching techniques here

Follow your treatment plan

Maintaining routine chiropractic care is imperative for keeping those aches and pains away.

Drink Water

Drink plenty of water after receiving an adjustment. Proper hydration keeps muscles and joints loose and helps prevent recurrence of malalignment.

Eat Healthy

As always, it is important to fuel your body with healthy foods to keep it healthy and performing at its best. Eat a colorful diet packed with fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins. Avoid sugary and fatty foods.

Use Ice & Heat

Ice and heat therapy are great ways to support your body after chiropractic care. It’s not always easy to remember when your body needs ice and when it needs heat so refer back to this resource sheet when needed.

Supplementing Your Care

Supplements are a great way to give your body a boost!

Combined with a healthy diet, vitamins and supplements add to your overall health and well being and improve the immune system. With so many options available, it can be overwhelming to know where to begin when examining supplements.

We always recommend multivitamins to our patients. A multivitamin is packed with an assortment of nutrients and is a great addition to your daily regiment.

Magnesium is another excellent supplement to support chiropractic health. Magnesium, along with its other benefits, serves as a natural muscle relaxant.

Talk with your local chiropractor at Turning Point Wellness Center to find more specialized supplements. We can discuss your needs and recommend products specifically targeted to soft tissue sprains/strains as well as strengthening tendons and ligaments.
