If you ask people what chiropractors do you’ll probably get responses about relieving back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, and a variety of other aches and pains (and yes, quite likely, a quip about cracking backs).
As chiropractors, pain relief is a big part of what we do, and we love helping our patients feel better! But what do we love even more? Maintenance care that helps to KEEP our patients living pain free.
Maintenance vs. Acute
Most people are familiar with acute chiropractic care. That’s care designed to heal the body. This may mean relieving lower back pain, stiff necks, achy joints, pain from trauma due to injury, car accidents, and so on.
An acute, or active plan, may consist of a series of manual adjustments, acupuncture, laser therapy, therapeutic ultrasound, or a combination of services. This plan is developed by our chiropractic physicians to address a patients’ specific concerns.
In contrast, a maintenance care plan is designed to keep the body functioning optimally, staying limber, and strong. This is a proactive approach that aims to prevent issues, rather than treat them.
Using the same treatment methods as acute care, maintenance care can address a host of issues including; promoting a healthy gut, boosting immunity, improving balance, preventing injury, easing joint pain, and reducing headaches.
Will a maintenance plan benefit me?
The short answer is yes! We encourage all of our patients to come see us regularly, even when you are feeling good. Chances are, our treatment will make you feel even better!
Even if you’ve never had chiropractic care before, coming in for an adjustment regularly will likely leave you feeling refreshed. If you typically only see us when you’re having pain, adding maintenance appointments can maximize the relief you feel from your acute treatment.
Our patients agree saying, “I am a firm believer in keeping a regular monthly appointment for an adjustment on the calendar. It has seriously been life changing for me. Turning point and Dr. Miller have done so much for me over the years!” --Heather K, Turning Point patient.
“I see Dr. Jen every three weeks for headaches. Some days I go in feeling good and some days….not so much. But either way, I feel better after a quick adjustment. Keeping that standing appointment makes me feel like I am doing what I can to take control of my health.” –Lindsey K, Turning Point patient.

Preventative care is key
Just like seeing your medical doctor for a check-up or going to the dentist twice a year, adding chiropractic maintenance will help prevent issues down the road and contribute to your overall wellness.
At Turning Point, we believe in treating the whole body. That means we advocate for regular care appointments with other health professionals along with adopting healthy lifestyle habits.
Eating a balanced diet, staying active, increasing your intake of fruits and vegetables, incorporating dietary supplements, performing stretches or yoga, learning proper ergonomics, adding meditation, mindfulness, and stress relief into your daily life will help keep your body functioning at its best.
